DESCRIPTION
Based on historic precedents more than a century and a half old, this house plan designed by Skip Tuminello of Vicksburg, Mississippi, reflects the rich and varied architectural heritage of the South.
Simplicity and symmetry characterize the exterior, with six chamfered columns supporting the front porch roof. Latticework panels set between brick piers dress the foundation. Long, shuttered windows on the lower level combine with round-top dormer windows to further reflect the regional influence.
Inside, wide cased openings off the foyer add a feeling of spaciousness. Two Ionic columns form a graceful entry into the family room, which features a fireplace flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows. The master bedroom suite includes a walk-in closet, a private bath, and columns separating the sleeping and sitting areas. The kitchen, breakfast room, and laundry occupy the rest of the space on the first floor, with a breezeway to the garage. Upstairs, three bedrooms and two baths are nestled under a steeply pitched roof.
